This quote that Nelson Mandela said means that he rather have people see how hard he worked to accomplish his goals and have a successful career. I think people rather be judged by. The number of times they fell down then got back up because it shows how strong a person is and shows that they are willing to do anything in order to accomplish their goals.

Nelson Mandela
Mr. Mandela said, "do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again." ~ Nelson Mandel What does this quote mean to you and why, in your opinion, would anyone want to be judged by the number of times they fell down and got back up? In fact, what does that mean?

Staying focused and being consistent
QUESTION:
Russell Wilson made a comment “You just take one day at a time and ignore the noise. It's about staying focused and being consistent on a daily basis - that's what a pro does." What did Russell Wilson specifically mean when he made that comment and how does it extend to every part of your life and your future? Specifically address the importance of staying focused, consistent and "ignoring the noise." Thanks and we will get started shortly!
ANSWER:
I think what he meant was that no meter where you go there will be criticism and sometimes it will bring you down but just pick yourself back up, stay strong and ignore the unwanted "noises". Take it day by day meaning don't be harsh on yourself because there's always tomorrow. The unwanted noises means all the people telling you BS. Ignore people trying to put you down and getting in the way of your goals. Consider the positives but ignore the negatives. Don't take criticism to the heart because no ones perfect.

Month of December
Some responsibilities that I have taken on this year is getting my first official job. I believe it has made me responsible because of all the hard work I have to put in it and also because it takes away a lot of my free time. I've also been in my first car accident and I have to pay for my car repair so it's hard having to pay it off by myself. I told my dad I wanted to pay it myself because I'm an adult now and I need to pay my consequences. Something that I take on for being responsible for my community is picking up my dogs poop when I take him for a walk. It annoys me when other people don't pick it up so I always pick it up.

Tuesday!
To me the quote that john f Kennedy said meant that when we say something it should come from the bottom of our hearts. It shouldn't be just words. And also to not say something that we don't mean.ni agree with this quote because I want people to tell me the truth and also tell me things because they want to say it.
My plans for thanks giving is to help prepare food for my family. Also I had plans with a friend in the morning. But I am thankful for many things. Yesterday I was in a car accident and I remember seeing everything happen in slow motion. I used to not believe that your life toime memories will flash before your eyes. But when this happened my life flashed before my eyes. I thought I was going to die but I'm fine. No injuries no nothing. I mostly want to thank god for watching over me yesterday.

Friday!!!
Part I:
-soup kitchens
-canned food drive
-make a dream foundation
-tutoring
This would benefit our communities by feeding homeless and people who don't really have much money. It can also give a child who's parents can't afford anything a gift they wish for. And tutoring helps kids understand a subject better.
Part II:
A problem that occurs frequently in my community is that there is a lot of gang violence. That is an ongoing problem that seems to never change. It affects people because family and friends are either dying or getting hurt by these gang violence. There is also a lot of careless drivers. There have also been a lot of drug dealers around my area which is bad also.

The bill that I chose was the "Rebuild America Act" S.4
Senator Harry Reid sponsors this act.
The purpose of this bill is to create jobs and to support businesses. It also wants to modernize, renovate and repair elementary and secondary school to improve their educational outcomes. They also want to update and enhance the the U.S. Network of rails, dams, and ports.
People who don't have jobs will be for this bill because we all need jobs at this point.
People that will oppose this bill are the people that have a well paying job because if we start putting more people to work then they will be getting less hours and will be getting paid less.
Committees that are hearing this bill are the senate committee on commerce, science and transportation.
The chairperson of the committee is Jay Rockefeller.
This bill will impact our community by giving everyone more jobs. It will also impact all go us in a bad way because if we all have jobs already then we might get less hours and that means less money.

Bill
In order for a bill to become a law it must first go to the senate , then It goes to the House of Representatives and then the last person it goes to is the president. The president can also veto a bill that would then go back to the house to decide if this is something they would like to be passed as a law.
It is important for people to know this process because if they want to make a law they need to know the steps to make a law. Everyone has opinions so if they don't like something they can write it down and make it into a bill then send it off to congress to decide if they'd like to make it a law.

3day weekend
I actually enjoyed my 3-day weekend. Most of the time I was with family. I worked both Saturday and Sunday at 5am but it was ok because I got out at 1:30 and was able to go out and have fun. The most fun thing I did was go to my nephews baptisms on Saturday where there was a live mariachi playing.
My goals for the end of this quarter is to bring up my English grade. I also plan on not missing school and coming until the ends of winter break.

Voting
Measure w is more interesting to me because as I drive to school everyday I see many people standing outside holding say yes to measure W. I think I would say yes because these school need to be less clouded and I think they should open another school if the classes are overcrowded. In order for this bill to pass 2/3 of people need to vote yes to it. The cost is 23,000,000 I think.

A Perfect Day
A perfect day for me would happen 5 years from now when I'm 23. I will own a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with 2 close friends of mine in Newark. I am going to wake up at 6 in the morning to make coffee and get ready for what the day has to bring me. I plan on working at a bank and being a hair and makeup artist. I would work at the bank in the morning and work as a hair and make up artist in the afternoon. To get to work in the morning I would be driving my black with black interior BMW. Before work me and my roommates would go get a bite to eat. The days we would go to eat would be Wednesdays and Fridays for breakfast. The other days we'd make breakfast at home. Well the day I'm describing is a Friday. The next thing I'd do would be go to work at Wells Fargo bank. I would be wearing a nice dressy girl suit and with black heels. When I get to work I would greet everyone with a smile on my face and then walk to my desk that has my name on top of it. I would next tend to customers needs. At 12pm it is lunch time so me and a couple co-workers would go out and have a Bite to eat somewhere fancy like the cheese cake factory or Bucca De Pepo in PaloAlto. I would then get back to work and at 2 in order to get ready for my next job. That day I would be getting ready to go to a MAC exhibit where a couple of famous directors from Hollywood would come to see my work and decide if they will hire me to work as a makeup artist on their movie set. I would change into an outfit that's all black because that is Mac's uniform. This event would be taking place at a MAC convention in San Francisco. When I get there I have my portfolio ready to show the directors and I would have 5 models to do hair and makeup on. At the end of the night the directors choose people they want and luckily I was chosen to do one! I would then drive home and it is now 8 pm and I would tell my friends the good news. We would then go out and celebrate. The night would end with me coming home and sleeping on my mystery foam bed that is the most comfortable bed ever!
The scenario that I wrote is a 1in 5 chance that would happen. Most of it I believe I can achieve if I put my heart and soul into it. There's not really any questions I have. One reason why this would not happen is if I end up changing my mind later on in the future of what I want to do and be when I grow up.from a scale of 1-10 I give it a 10 on how committed I am on making this dream realistic. I chose 10 because this is a dream I've had since I was 9. I loved watching my cousin do hair and makeup and it seems to me as if shes passed in that passion to me. This is something I will do my best on achieving and trying to do my best at it.

Family decisions
When ever there's a disagreement in our family my dad is always the one to decide what to do. There's no voting or anything. But he usually chooses the best thing. But before he decides me and my sisters argue, but in a nice funny argument.

Government shutdown.
The government being shutdown affects the national guards and other people because they no longer have jobs. This affects us because the government isn't getting along. Also me and my family personally want the Obama care to be passed because everyone cannot afford medical. I work at smart n final and I talked to the manager and he said that stocks are going down and he said that they might cut people, layoff people. Also our hours are horrible.

Friday blog
I don't always do what my friends tell me to do. I decide for myself. There was one time when my old friend told me to take something from the store for her and right there and then I stopped talking to her.some things I want the community to change is to make houses like rent cheaper. Also clothing stores are expensive here. I personally love Obama as our president and I'd keep him president forever if it was possible. We need a more diverse school. Like here at ma we need to stop segregation between the students.

Block day 9/26/13
When Drummond said that the right to think was on trial meant that everyone in the jury were not letting him speak his mind or letting him explain the theory to the people. The right to think is important in our world today because if people wouldn't let us think this world would probably be very strict and there would have been a lot of rebellion. I think a lot of people would have been in jail if we were all supposed to have the same beliefs.

Today I was supposed to present my current event. I was chosen to do local news and what I found most interesting was the arrest of Coleman, a 24 year old man who did a hit and run. The crash killed 2 elderly women. The women were on their way to work at the airport when Coleman crashed into them. Oh he is from East Palo Alto. The police found him because he had towed his Mercedes that proved he was the driver that crashed into him. This is important for our community to know about because there are some careless drivers and we as a community need to be cautious when we drive. I thought this was interesting because this could have happened to anyone.

Field trip review/study hall
I believe that the purpose of this field trip was to interact with others from the academy. I did enjoy the trip because we got to take a day of of school and relax. We spent more time with our academy family and that was awesome! My favorite part of the trip was paddle boating and also eating haha. If you we're to change something it would be to make the trip longer.
Study hall is a time we get in class to make up work from other classes and also to see of we can do any extra credit work. During block day I will make up work for my English class and see if there is anything that I'm missing from my other classes.

Having read the first part of the book, the scopes trial seems to take place in a small town of Hillsboro. i picture the town as everyone knowing each other and what every happens to one family, the whole town will somehow find out. I also picture everyone going to church together and there's a lot of religious people. The town people are gossipers and my street are also gossipers. The city I live in is pretty big so I don't really know a lot of people. A place similar to this town that I have been in is a small town that my stepmom is from that's called "La Labor". The people there know each other and also they gossip a lot. They are all religious. The thing that's different is that there is Christian's and Catholics there and they don't care if you don't believe in creationism.

Current event day #1
I think it is important to hear about what's going on in the world because we live in this world. For my current event I wrote about the chemical weapons Syria is using and how that is a huge problem in the world. I would like to hear about the latest technology that was created. Also it's good to hear about local news to see what is going on in our community. Everyone should be aware of the dangers in this world.

Monday post 09/09/13
I believe that one individual does have the power to to change society. If that person is passionate about that topic then anything is possible. They might also encourage other people who feel the same way to get involved. One thing that they might do is boycott or also simply fight for what is right. For example rosa parks did a simple thing which was to not give up her seat to a white man and she was arrested. Now she's famous for her courageous idea.

Mendez family
Schools shouldn't be segregated because the color of our skin. Schools should be a diverse environment. The Mendez family's children should be able to go to school with all the kids their age. It's time that we start changing the ways schools are ran. We are all equal.
Here at MA we should change a few things. There is still some segregation happening not only in the classrooms but during breaks also. There's no other way to put it but in AP classes there are mostly white kids, no Latinos or mixed races. We should try getting more races into these college course classes. Next, the green. The green isaplacewherekidsgo during lunch to eat. And again it's mostly full of white people.me and myfriendstry going there to hang out but it's not so fun because we get dirty looks all the time.we should have more games during school lunches so we can have a diverse environment.

50th anniversary of The March on Washington Street
1. The purpose of the march on Washington was to have a nonviolent protest about segregate and also to have equality. Political and social injustice. Desegregating schools, jobs, and to pass the civil rights bill, also housing.
2. The purpose was to abolish segregation so that not only his children but all colored children can go to school with white children and be able to go into any place a white person can go. I think it also said people should be treated equally.
3. The march on Washington was 2 of the most talked about in the civil rights era because it was the biggest march and also because it made a hug impact in history; colored and white people having all the same rights. People united and came together to make a difference. It was nonviolent.
4. Not only were there colored people in the movement but there was also some white people who believed that we all have equal rights and they saw that treating colored different than the white people wasn't humane. They wanted to fight for what was right. They wanted to see something change.
5. One thing I would tell people is to go out and mix with different cultures. Because that's what we tend to do; Latinos hang out with Latinos, white people hang out with other white people, etc. I guess to stop segregating in cliques.we need people to lead. Also about immigration and gay rights, the gun control. S throng speech and also hope. Something that's affecting us.
6. There recently was a huge march before the court about letting homosexuals marry in California. That march was huge because the Golden Gate Bridge had to be closed for a while. And they ended up winning the trial. The dream act gave kids a social security number so that they were able to go to college. It also them an opportunity to get a job. They're motivated about something they're passionate about.
Video notes :
They thought that being violentnshowed everyone else their weakness. So instead they peacefully marched to show that they are stronger than using violence against other people. People were being hosed to the wall with high pressured firehoses and dogs biting innocent people.
On 130th street and Harlem in Washington.whitenpeople were working with colored people to set up the march and have transportation for everyone to get to Washington. They made sure all the signs were right. People kept coming in to the Lincoln memorial. Everyone was curious about what Martin Luther king jr was going to say. He stopped reading his script and started saying his dream. The image he gave was freedom.

Project Review
I thought that I could have done a better job at explaining all the people. Add more information to the captions. My group worked well together and we had no problems at all. One issue that should be addressed in our community is that there is still some segregation at school. There's not really any mix of cultures here at MA. The kids on the green are all white and when you try to have a conversation with them they just look at you weirdly. That's one issue I'd like to change. Also stoping the stereotype that all Mexicans are immigrants or they're poor. Give money to poor school that are not high leveled schools. Those schools need more resources.

Senior week #1
This weekend I'm going to go finish doing some last minute school supply shopping. I'm also going to apply for jobs because it is time that I learn to be responsible and get more experience working. I plan on applying at Smart N Final. A famous person that I find interesting is Muhammad Ali for giving wise and amazing advice. Also Eleanor Roosevelt helped create the universal declaration of human rights. She was one of the most loved woman on the 20th century!

Social justice
Social justice is when everyone has the same rights. In the video I saw two pictures of famous people that I recognized. I saw Martin Luther king jr. Jacky Robinson and i also saw Obama. Martin Luther king jr. Was a civil rights activist and he helped stop segregation. Obama was the first ever African American president in the United States of America. And jacky robinson was the first african american baseball player to play on a major league. Things they have in common is at they're all African American and also made white people change their minds about the stereotypes. They all also spoke their minds and made a difference.

All about me
All About Me
My name is Stephanie Valencia. I'm 17 years old and I'm a senior here at Menlo Atherton high school! I have 5sisters, 2 brothers. I'm on of the oldest sisters. I also have 3 dogs. My strongest personality traits are that I'm a really nice person and I care about everyone. I'm a social person, I like meeting new people all the time! Outside of school I walk my dog, go out with friends and family, and I'm starting to go to the gym. I enjoy spending time with my family from Mexico when they come visit or I even text then. But I enjoy this because they are the only family I trust and they know how to give out good advice. I also enjoy playing soccer. Some goals I have set for this year is to be more social and make new friends. Also to focus on school and not let anything get in my way. I want to be able to have 3.0 grade point average. I will accomplish these goals by not being shy. Also I will do all my work and homework and study hard for tests! Personal goals is to loose weight and also to stay out of childish drama. I'm going to start going to the gym at least 4 times a week and eat healthy. I'm more of a visual learner. It's easier for me to remember things by seeing an image. You can help me achieve these goals by being supportive and by answering all my questions. Other than that, I look forward to this school year!

Back to school!
I washed my face today when I woke up and got ready. I came prepared with a notebook and pencils. I'm excited because I'm finally a senior!! I'm going to make this the best year ever! Some things I'd like to accomplish this year is trying to come everyday and being early. I'd also like to focus more on school and no more drama. Lastly I want to be more mature.
